Hughes Experiences the Impact of the Nazi Party on Modern Austria
2017 Jun 2
Joshua Hughes was one of 20 students from Susquehanna University who recently spent time in Austria as part of the university's Global Opportunities (GO) program.
GO Austria: National History, Global Responsibilities gives students the opportunity to visit cathedrals, catacombs, a medieval fortress and an ancient salt mine in Salzburg; attend a Mozart concert, an opera or a play; contrast Salzburg with the Austrian capital, Vienna; and consider the modern-day impact of the Nazi past by talking with local college and high school students.
As a cross-cultural requirement, study away is an integral part of at Susquehanna education. All students spend at least two weeks off campus, immersed in a culture different from their own, in the U.S. or abroad. Students reflect upon their experiences when they return, guided by faculty members and coursework that promotes discovery and personal growth.
