Keck Explores the Arid Beauty of Australia

2016 Jul 18

Jessica Keck was one of 14 students from Susquehanna University who recently studied in Australia as part of the university's Global Opportunities (GO) program.

The trip, titled Focus Australia, concentrates on the history, culture and biogeography of one of the world's most arid countries. The study tour, including stays in New South Wales, the Northern Territory and far northern Queensland, offers opportunities to spend time in the rainforest, scuba dive on the Great Barrier Reef, walk at the sacred aboriginal sites of Uluru and Kata Tjuta, and tour the historic city of Sydney.

As a cross-cultural requirement, study away is an integral part of a Susquehanna education. All students spend at least two weeks off campus, immersed in a culture different from their own, in the U.S. or abroad. Students reflect upon their experiences when they return, guided by faculty members and coursework that promotes discovery and personal growth. Susquehanna students can choose from study-away programs, ranging from a few weeks to a full semester, in Africa, Asia, Australia, South America, Europe, Puerto Rico and Hawaii, among other options.
