Koeck Returns from Studies in Sweden

2016 Jul 18

Alyssa Koeck was one of 17 students who recently studied in Sweden for two weeks as part of Susquehanna University's Global Opportunities (GO) program.

GO Sweden allows students to study modern medicine in a land with a cultural heritage that can be traced back to the Vikings. By observing health care in Sweden, students learn about the continuum of world health care and the dynamic relationship between culture and the delivery of health care. The trip includes travel to Stockholm, the capital of Sweden and home of the Nobel Prize, exploration of a 16th-century castle and a medieval town, and visits to Uppsala University, one of the oldest universities in Europe, and the Swedish archipelago.

As a cross-cultural requirement, study away is an integral part of a Susquehanna education. All students spend at least two weeks off campus, immersed in a culture different from their own, in the U.S. or abroad. Students reflect upon their experiences when they return, guided by faculty members and coursework that promotes discovery and personal growth. Susquehanna students can choose from study-away programs, ranging from a few weeks to a full semester, in Africa, Asia, Australia, South America, Europe, Puerto Rico and Hawaii, among other options.
