Lentz to Experience Service-learning in Puerto Rico

2017 Jun 5

Julie Lentz is one of 12 students from Susquehanna University who will spend time in Puerto Rico this summer as part of the university's Global Opportunities (GO) program.

Service and Culture in Puerto Rico, is a two-week service-learning trip to the island. Participating in more than 30 hours of service work, the students experience local community and culture firsthand. Though based in San Juan, students travel all over the island and visit sites like El Yunque, the U.S. National Forest System's only tropical rainforest.

As a cross-cultural requirement, study away is an integral part of a Susquehanna education. All students spend at least two weeks off campus, immersed in a culture different from their own, in the U.S. or abroad. Students reflect upon their experiences when they return, guided by faculty members and coursework that promotes discovery and personal growth.
