Nicholson Lends Talent to Radio Station

2017 Sep 13

Carolina Nicholson is serving this academic year as the music director for Susquehanna's student-run radio station, WQSU-FM 88.9, "The Pulse."

The students on executive staff were elected in March of 2017 and began their responsibilities with the positions when they arrived in August. They will hold these positions until May of 2018.

WQSU-FM is a licensed, noncommercial, public radio station serving the central Susquehanna Valley with an effective radiated power of 12,000 watts. WQSU-FM serves about one-third of the state of Pennsylvania with a wide variety of modern rock and specialty programming, including blues, country, bluegrass, reggae, metal and electronic music. It also broadcasts Susquehanna men's and women's sporting events live, Associated Press news and weekday morning programming from the region's public broadcasting affiliate, and even broadcasts the Susquehanna worship services on Sundays. Most recently, the radio station began streaming over the Internet, making it possible for anyone to listen live.

The operation of WQSU-FM serves two separate and distinct purposes. The first is mandated by the Federal Communications Commission-to serve the public interest. The second is to serve Susquehanna in its educational mission by training students in various forms of broadcasting principles and operations, and to serve as a media outlet of Susquehanna.
