Ram Experiences Traditional and Modern Greek Culture

2017 Jun 2

Jessica Ram was one of 14 students from Susquehanna University who recently spent time in Greece as part of the university's Global Opportunities (GO) program.

The study experience, titled Greek Culture: Ancient and Modern, gives students the opportunity to experience fundamental aspects of Greek life and tradition. They learned about the production of olive oil, honey, cheese, wine and ceramics, enjoyed Greek cuisine and cooking lessons, explored traditional Greek music and dance, and began to practice the modern Greek language. The trip focused on Crete and Athens, with additional trips to multiple locations.

As a cross-cultural requirement, study away is an integral part of a Susquehanna education. All students spend at least two weeks off campus, immersed in a culture different from their own, in the U.S. or abroad. Students reflect upon their experiences when they return, guided by faculty members and coursework that promotes discovery and personal growth.
