2017 Apr 26

Laura Spence was one of 50 students from Susquehanna University who recently presented research at the 31st annual National Conference on Undergraduate Research in Memphis, Tenn.

Spence's research, titled "Feeding Ecology of Barn Owls (Tyto alba; Scopoli, 1769) in Central Pennsylvania," was supervised by Carlos Iudica, associate professor of biology at Susquehanna. Spence also presented "Age Determination of Voles (Microtus spp, Schrank, 1798) Based on Wear of the Occlusal Surfaces on Individual Molars Consumed by Barn Owls (Tyto alba, Scopoli, 1769)," supervised by Iudica.

Established in 1987, the conference is dedicated to promoting undergraduate research and scholarship done in partnership with faculty or other mentors. Students experience firsthand the processes of scholarly exploration and discovery that characterize academic life.

The National Conference on Undergraduate Research promotes undergraduate research scholarship and creative activity done in partnership with faculty or other mentors as a vital component of higher education. The annual conference has become a national celebration of undergraduate scholarly activity involving all academic disciplines and all institutions of higher education.
