Van Woert Presents Research at Annual Symposium

2015 Sep 28

Andrew Van Woert, of Fogelsville, Pa., presented research at the Seventh Annual Landmark Conference Summer Research Symposium. The research was conducted with Ahmed Lachhab, associate professor of earth and environmental sciences, concerning the assessment of water quality in Snyder County PA using the water quality index (WQI) and diatom metrics.

Students from Susquehanna were joined at the symposium by peers from Moravian, Goucher and Juniata colleges--all schools in the Landmark Athletic Conference. This year, the symposium featured 12 academic discussions and 64 poster presentations on a variety of research, in such areas as physics, biochemistry, biology, ecology, environmental science, mathematics, history, economics and computer science.

Since the creation of the Landmark Conference, one of its goals has been to find "ways to collaborate beyond athletic venues," said Professor of Biology Margaret Peeler, who serves as Susquehanna's faculty representative to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). "The symposium has done just that."
