Susquehanna, a liberal arts university, focuses on intellectual development, global competence and career success. We offer a nationally recognized study abroad program and more than 100 majors and minors in business, humanities, arts and sciences. Students develop critical thinking, writing, teamwork and communication skills which, combined with internships and research opportunities, prepare them for a lifetime of personal and professional success. Small classes enable faculty members to serve as mentors, as well as teachers. Ninety-six percent of Susquehanna students are employed or in graduate or professional school within six months of graduation.

Several Susquehanna students served career-building internships while abroad in London. The students participated in the Sigmund Weis School of Business London Program during the fall semester. While abroad, students complete an internship, as well as courses in operations management, quantitative methods for business, international business practice, and management and organizational behavior.

Students Assume Enactus Leadership Roles
Several students were recently elected to the executive board of Susquehanna University's Enactus team. Enactus is an international, nonprofit organization that challenges students from more than 1,600 campuses in 36 countries to take what they are learning in the classroom and use it to improve local and international communities. During its competitive history, SU Enactus has consistently placed high in regional and national competitions that measure team success.

Students Learn Ins and Outs of European Union
Several students took part in the annual Mid-Atlantic European Union Simulation held in Washington, D.C., from Nov. 9-11. The simulation involves meetings of the European Union (EU) Council, two parliamentary committees and two Councils of Ministers. During the three days, students have the opportunity to visit the embassy of the country that they represented in the simulation.

Student Attends PRSSA National Conference
A Susquehanna student attended the 2017 National Conference of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) in Boston earlier this fall. PRSSA is the foremost organization for students interested in public relations and communications. The annual national conference gives students the chance to connect with their fellow peers and mentors while developing professional skills through motivating sessions and distinguished speakers.

First-Year Students Give Back through SU Splash
For a group of select first-year students, one summer service-learning trip can change the way they view themselves, their communities and those impacted by homelessness around the world. Each summer, members of the incoming class participate in SU SPLASH (Students Promoting Leadership and Awareness in Serving the Homeless), an opportunity coordinated by the David '69 and Sharon Johnson Center for Civic Engagement.

Students Encourage University Support Through Caller Program
Several students recently helped raise funds for Susquehanna University through its student calling program. The students contact parents and alumni to encourage them to support the university by making a donation. Funds raised are used to support scholarships, laboratory equipment, research, athletics, the library and the arts, among other endeavors.

Students Elected to Student Government
The Susquehanna student body has elected several classmates to represent them in the Student Government Association (SGA) this year. The SGA is a representative student organization that ensures an active student voice and role in governing the university. The Student Senate, the legislative branch of the association, provides a forum for student opinions and deals with matters of concern to the entire student body, seeking solutions to campus issues.

Several students are studying abroad this fall. Study away is an integral part of a Susquehanna education. Susquehanna is distinguished by its Global Opportunities (GO) program, which requires all students to spend at least two weeks off campus, immersed in a culture different from their own.

Susquehanna Student Volunteers Prepare Incoming Class for Their First College Experience
Several students from the Office of First Year Experience and the Residence Life staffs served as orientation team leaders at Susquehanna University. The orientation team is composed of upper-class students with a desire to help new students make the transition to life at Susquehanna. During the four day student orientation, team leaders answer questions, help new students and their families unload their cars and move into residence halls, attend orientation events with new students and facilitate small group discussions.

Students Guide Tours at Susquehanna
Several students are working as student ambassadors this year at Susquehanna. To become an ambassador, students must complete a written application and personal interview with the admissions staff. Once selected, students complete an intensive training program, followed by additional training sessions throughout their time on the job.

Students Gain Spots in Stadium Band
Several students are participating in Susquehanna's stadium band this fall. The stadium band plays at all home football games, the homecoming parade and pep rally, and at special events throughout the fall. The band is under the direction of Eric Hinton, associate professor of music and director of bands at Susquehanna.

Ten students recently received the Douglas and Lucille Arthur Scholarship. The Arthurs established the scholarship in 1987 as an expression of their commitment to Susquehanna and the opportunities it provides young men and women.

Students Serving as Staff in Office of the Chaplain
Several students have been appointed student deacons at Susquehanna University for the 2017-18 academic year. Student deacons work with the chaplain to plan and lead worship, plan retreats and service opportunities, and advocate for social and environmental justice. Members of the student staff in the Office of the Chaplain benefit from professional-level work experience and a mentoring relationship with the university chaplain.

WQSU-FM is a public radio station operating from the university. The station not only serves the public of the general area but also provides students with the opportunity to train in various forms of broadcasting principles and operations.

Students Selected as Presidential Fellows at Susquehanna
Several students were selected as Presidential Fellows for the 2017-18 academic year at Susquehanna University. Each year, approximately 20 sophomore students are selected to be Presidential Fellows. Deans and department heads nominate students who they feel have the academic ability, enthusiasm and interest to benefit from co-curricular discussions of literature, theater and current events.

Fall 2017 Cheerleaders
Several students were recently named to the 2017 cheerleading squad. The Susquehanna cheerleaders, under the direction of head coach Sarah Markel, are skilled in dancing, gymnastics and stunts. The 20-member squad performs at all football and home men's and women's basketball games.
